FANBOYS: Episode 1 BlueRay Vs HD-DVD: The PS3 hack Case
Mr Fido: Blu-ray is not SD or HD Donferri. Its a storage medium. What the guy was pointing out is that the data stored on them is the same. Putting something in a bigger box doesn't make it bigger. You are paying more money for the same data except it has been re encoded with parameters to STRETCH it to a larger size mathematically so it will render at higher resolutions. You can do the same thing using an upscaler on the standard DVD version and you would get the same quality.
Also, blu ray disc are slow (this is why most things on the PS3 MUST install before you play them) and a lot of that data in the game is duplicate data use to increase load times. Go look at the size almost any ps3 game that has been uploaded to the internet. Most of them could fit on a regular dvd because all of the padding and dummy files have been removed. The only ones that can't are the ones that are loaded with uncompressed voice data and HD CG movies and FMVs.
Mr. Frudo: Seems like you don't know anything about storage size and resolutions. Ofcourse blue ray is a storage medium that it allows HD (1080p) resolution possible. Smaller medium forces compression which results in lower quality. Upscaling allows it to multiply the pixels into 1080p level but you don't get the same quality as HD video with uncompressed audio. Higher resolution doesn't automatically mean higher quality. Also, blue ray disc is not slow, its the medium of reading the disc is slow, read speeds are getting faster with new players. Anyone who thinks that 25gb (blue ray) is same as 5gb (DVD) is probably suffering from serious mental disorder.
Mr. Frido: No apparently you don't know anything HD. You can put an HD video on a CD. It just wouldn't be a very big one.
Just like the rest of the ignorant fanboys on here, you are confusing capability with what is being done or either you can't read. No one said that the movie "couldn't" be better quality on a blu-ray. We are saying that it "wasn't".
The point was that you are paying more for the same data. They could have made the videos higher quality but they didn't. Blu-Ray is just a bigger box. It doesn't alter the data held on it in anyway.
Anyone who says that someone said that bluray is the same is a dvd when they didn't is probably suffering from a "severe" mental disorder. Go back to school and learn how to read and conjugate vocabulary.
Mr. Frudo: have ya ever used a Blue-Ray?
Mr. Frido:Blu Ray itself does nothing amazing. It utilizes MPEG2 (which is supported by standard DVD) as well as H.264 (the current codec for "HD" content). As a previous poster already stated, the limitation of DVD is not which codec is used, but how much data can be stored. A really long movie using no compression, won't fit on most DVDs, even DS/DL DVDs. On the other hand, a short high definition video can easily fit.
Ultimately, what Blu Ray allows for, is the ability to store long videos without the need to use compression or multiple layers (currently, the largest DVD can hold ~18GB if it is double-sided and quadruple layered). However, all of that space is squandered because most (not all) Blu Ray movies are pressed using the same master file that is used to press a DVD. If you are going to watch upscaled DVD masters on a Blu Ray, you might as well watch a DVD itself and just upscale that.
Like I said, the information is out there, if you are willing to actually do some research. The phrase, "caveat emptor" exists for a reason. You must inform yourself. The provider of the good has no duty to disclose everything about the product. This is why they can get away with selling you the same file for more money on a different medium. But hey, ignorance is bliss. Sony loves your dollars.

The Greatest Marvel hero gets his due.
Captain America enjoys the same stature in the marvel world that Batman enjoys in the DC universe. The able leader of Team of Avengers,Captain America is simply the "papa" of Iron Man and Spiderman with his Super Soldier Strength,agility,vibranium-admantium alloy induced shield and his intuitiveness. But with all the Anti-American air around us,the new world after 9/11 ,the war on terror aka War for Oil,will this symbol of American Strength be accepted by non-American audience? Though Marvel is trying to repaint a new Avatar as the "Symbol of Freedom and Democracy" rather than "Symbol of American heroism"..still the red and blue stripes may offend many. The case,we shall discover on July 22
